21 dropped dead in JKP’s ‘maximum restraint’

Srinagar, Aug 12: At least 21 persons were killed and dozens injured, some of them critically as police, paramilitary and army personnel opened fire on peaceful protestors at several places in Kashmir on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses said that personnel of 15 Rashtria Rifles opened fire on a strong mob near Paribal, Bandipora on Tuesday morning. Raising pro-freedom, pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans, the protestors were marching from Aloosa to Bandipora when the army personnel intercepted them at Paribal and fired indiscriminately towards them.
They said that three persons were killed on spot and 23 others sustained bullet injuries. The injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital, Bandipora where from some of the critically injured were referred to Srinagar. One of the critically injured succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
The deceased were identified as Mumtaz Ahmed Bhat, Ali Muhammad, Muhammad Shafiq Ganie and Mehrajudin Ganie, were killed when troopers fired upon a procession near Paribal area of Bandipora where the
People alleged that the troopers fired on the ambulance carrying the injured to the hospital. “We were on the way to Srinager hospital and at Qamarwari, CRPF personnel without any provocation fired upon an ambulance," said Dr. Asif on phone.
At Lasjan, Srinagar, police, CRPF and army personnel opened fire on a strong gathering of people, who were marching towards martyrs graveyard Iddgah, Srinagar amidst raising of pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. Srinagar. The procession was intercepted by the troopers near Main-Chowk, Lasjan.
Eye witnesses alleged that the troopers fired indiscriminately on them, killing two of the protestors and injuring several others. The deceased were identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed Bhat son Abdul Gani of Lasjan and Abid Sheikh son of Mushtaq Ahmed Sheikh of Lasjan.
In Mansbal, two persons died after CRPF fired on peaceful protestors raising anti-India and anti-government slogans. The deceased were identified as Javaid Ahmed and Muhammad Subhan, all residents of Manasbal.
Police sources said in Islamabad a massive gathering of people were marching towards Iddgah, Srinagar to participate in the funeral prayers of slain Huriyat leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz. Chanting pro-freedom slogans the procession crossed two police check posts without any interception. The procession was intercepted by the CRPF troopers near Nai-Basti and indiscriminate fire was opened killing two persons namely Muhammad Saleem Shah son of Peer Muhammad Shah on spot and injuring hundreds.
In Bijbehera town, police and CRPF personnel fired from automatic weapons towards a strong mob of people, killing a protestor. The deceased was identified as Showkat Ahmed Najar of Marhama, Bijbehara.
The cops also fired on protestors at Islamabad, killing a youth and injuring 41 others. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Aslram Khatana son of Abdul Rashid Khatana of Kokernag. The injured were hospitalized.
In Rainawari a group of protesters clashed with police and CRPF personnel, who prevented them from moving towards Iddgah. The protestors tried to attack the residence of NC MLA, Mohammad Sayed Akhoon. The troopers repulsed the attack and fired on the protestors, killing one of them, who was identified as Owais Majeed son of Abdul Majeed of Rainawari. Several persons were injured in the clashes.
A police official of Police station Chanapora said that CRPF personnel opened fire on a group of protesters at Baghi Mehtab, killing one Javaid Ahmed Mir son of Ghulam Ahmed Mir of Methan.
Meanwhile, a protestor was killed in Zoonimar when CRPF troopers intercepted a huge group of protesters and fired randomly at them. The deceased was identified as Muhammad Rafiq son of Muhammad Ashraf of Zoonimar.
Meanwhile, a protester collapsed to death while 40 others were injured in firing and teargas shelling at Rafiabad in Baramulla district.
Eyewitnesses said that thousands of people defied curfew restrictions and took out a peaceful march from Rafiabad. They aid that the protestors marched towards Panzla police station to set free detained Huriyat leader, Nayeem Khan. The police fired in air and lobbed tear smoke shells towards the people. One person identified as Sajad Ahmad of Rohama, Rafiabad fainted on spot and was declared brought dead by doctors at Baramulla hospital. Later, the police set free Nayeem Khan.
Defying curfew restrictions thousands of people took to streets at Ushakwara Baramulla. Police and CRPF men fired on protesters, which left seven persons included two women injured.
Police again resorted to firing on protesters at Janbazpora Rafiabad when thousands of people were marching towards Baramulla. The incident left three persons critically wounded.
Four persons were wounded in police firing and teargas shelling in Sopore town throughout the day. Early morning police fired teargas canisters and resorted to firing when mob attacked police post Bomai.
One woman was critically wounded in firing at Sopore township. Protesters also tried to torch the house of Congress leadr Abdul Gani Vakil at Nowpora Sopore. However, police foiled their attempt.
Police also fired on protesters in district hospital which created chaos and confusion with patients, doctors and attendants running for cover.
Medical Superintendent of Baramulla hospital Dr Muhammed Shafi Saraf told Rising Kashmir more then 24 injured persons were brought to the hospital till the evening. "Five of them had sustained bullet injuries," he added.
Three more persons were killed in Kishtwar.
Eight persons were also killed on Monday. However, officials confirmed the death of only six persons on Monday.
